Acne
Thursday, 16 August 2007

Acne is certainly not a new problem in the world today, it has been a problem that has affected humans for hundreds of years. But with the advancement of technology, acne prevention has become easier to treat and to remove. Below, we will list some ways of acne prevention which will help you remain clear skinned and acne free.

Keep Your Skin Clean

This is the first thing you must try to do at all times. It is also the simplest way to help acne from occuring. Unblocking your pores of the skin is the number one way to stop acne from appearing, so always wash with soap and water or cleansing lotion everyday. Do, this and it should prevent a major outbreak of occuring. Of course there will still be the odd rogue spot that appears!

Don't Pop That Zit

Yes, we've all done it. But the truth is that when you pop a zip you are just helping to spread the bacteria into a wider area. So, if you have a particular spot, just try to let it go down on it's own.

Try To Avoid Stress

Obviously, this will help you in more ways than just helping to prevent acne. Stress is a major cause of severe health conditions such as heart attacks and strokes. Stress also causes a change in chemicals in the body which can increase the chances of acne appearing. So, try to remain stress free and incorporate exercise into your daily routine. This will help you to relieve any stress that you may have.

If you suffer from acne in other places of the body, such as the back, then acne prevention is just as important. Try to wear clothing that isn't tight on the body as this can cause irritation to the affected area.

Many people of all ages suffer from acne. It's not just teens but adults can suffer quite a lot too. This isn't always apparent as many people simply thinkthat acne only occurs on the face but the truth is, acne can occur in many places of the body. Back acne is quite common and also acne of the chest is common too.

Treating back acne can be quite a lot more difficult than treating the acne on the face. This is due not only because you may not be able to reach the areas of the back that have the most acne but because the skin is a lot tougher on the back than it is on the face. So, normal acne treatments may not have the same effect.

Also, unlike the face, there is always something in contact with the back such as clothing. This can be a constant irritation or aggrevation to the affected areas. It is also an area where sweat can appear quite often and this causes the skin to be moist and oily and can cause blocked pores which is where acne begins.

So one way you can treat back acne is by keeping as clean and dry as you possibly can. Always try to wash your back as best you can and use skin moisturizer or cleansing lotions if possible. This will help to remove any excess oils and keep the skin nice and clean.

Obviously if your condition seems to be getting out of hand, then you should seek professional advice from a suitably qualified medical person. They will be able to give you treatment that you may not be able to buy off the shelf, that will be a lot stronger and help to cure your back acne.

A blackhead is the type of acne that people are most afraid of. Not because it is serious but because it looks the most unattractive and people always try to cover it up or pop it. They are caused by a build up of oil in the skin and this clogs up the pores and forms a spot, or blackhead. Dead skin cells also cause the blockage in the pores and are a major contributor to the blackhead occuring.

So, one of the ways you can prevent blackheads from appearing is to keep your skin and clean as possible. Removing excess dirt, bacteria and dead skin cells is the number one cure for acne prevention. This can be done simply by washing yourself everyday with either soap and water or a cleansing lotion. This may sound too simple but it really is the best way to prevent acne from breaking out.

There are of course many over the counter acne treatments you can use if acne is already appearing. These will generally be mild and will help treat small outbreaks of acne. If your acne is more severe then you should seek professional medical help and advice. It is vital to treat acne as soon as possible, as if you just leave it then acne scarring can occur once the acne disappears.

One thing you must really try to avoid doing is popping your spots or blackheads. This just causes the bacteria to be spread over a wider area and can cause more spots to appear. So even if you have a date or social meeting, popping that zit may only cause a larger amount of them appearing. So no matter how tempted you are, just remember that it will almost certainly be gone in just a couple of days. So try to leave it alone!

Acne is a major problem on it's own but the affects it leaves can be a more permanent one for many people. Acne scars can be a permanent reminder on the skin that acne has been a problem. These types of acne scars can be very different for different skin types and depending on how severe the acne was.

There various types of acne scars are so common that they all have their own classifications. Below we will list some of these, so that they can be recognized.

One of the more common types of acne scar is called the ice pick scar. This is especially common with a severe outbreak of acne and one that lasts for a long period of time. It can effect teenagers who are left with scarring on their foreheads and cheeks. It is called the ice pick scar because it leaves a relatively deep well in the skin, similar to what an ice pick leaves in the ice.

Hypertrophic scars are also ones associated with more severe acne. They tend to be quite thick in their appearance and difficult to cover up or remove.

There are many ways to try to remove or cover up acne scars. Using laser treatment is one of the fastest ways to do this but it is also one of the most expensive. It really depends on how severe the scarring is and what particular skin type you have, before you can choose the best method of reducing acne scars. You are recommended to seek to advice of a suitably qualified medical examiner who can look at your individual case and tell you what is best to try.

Dealing with acne scars doesn't have to be a permanent issue and one which shouldn't affect any part of your life.

Many people are under the illusion that acne only affects teenagers. This is linked with the change in hormone levels that teenagers go through. Of course, this isn't true at all as many adults suffer from acne the same way teenagers do. The change in hormones is a major cause but not the only cause. In fact, people suffer from adult acne all their lives only in a milder way.

The causes of adult acne can range depending on the individual. Although people with poor cleaning and lack of skin care tend to suffer more than people who look after their skin and keep clean at all times. Women can suffer from acne which is caused by a change in hormones. This leads to an oil being produced that blocks the pores and causes acne to appear. Proper cleansing can help this problem from occuring.

It is vital that you treat acne as best you can. However, treating adult acne can be slightly different than teenagers due to acne scarring being possible if you don't treat it right. If you are in any doubt how to cope with adult acne, then you should seek the advice of your local doctor. They will be able to tell you their recommendation whether it be an over the counter treatment or a prescription treatment. They may also be able to recommend a natural acne cure.

You should really try to find out as much information as you can about adult acne, as this will help you treat it and deal with the issue better. Once it was deemed a major problem that people tried to hide as best they could but nowadays there is no need to feel embarassed as it is something almost everyone has to deal with at some stage of their lives.

Many people think of acne as just "spots" and that all acne is the same. Well, this is really far from the truth as there are many different types of acne that affect people in different ways. Although acne may look the same from a distance, each type is a different size and shape and can last a lot longer than other types.

Non inflammatory acne for instance are often referred to as whiteheads. These occur due to a follicle of the hair underneath the skin being clogged and a small white lump appears. When the blocked hair pushes it's way through the surface of the skin, this is quite often when a blackhead appears.

The most common type of acne and the most mildest is called a papule. These are usually very small in appearance but also can be the most uncomfortable when they appear. They are often tender if you touch them.

Similar to papules are pustules. They are roughly about the same size but almost always are more infected and contain more bacteria. These are generally ones people are more tempted to pop as they appear red and the bottom but white and the head. They look the most unattractive of all spots and people like to remove them as quickly as possible.

There are of course many other types of acne that people suffer from. The best form of treatment is to try not to get the acne in the first place. If you make sure that your skin remians clean and dirt free at all times, then this should prevent any severe cases of acne from forming. Keeping your pores open is the best way to stop dirt from clogging up the pores. So, remember that prevention is always better than a cure and this is especially true in the case of acne.

There are many over the counter acne treatments that you can buy. Many of these are designed purely to help general outbreaks of acne, where as some of them have been developed to work specifically on certain types of acne.

Don't be afraid of soap and water!

Yes, in the treatment of acne, soap and water can be your best friend. If you don't have a regular pattern of washing every morning and night, then this is something you should seriously consider. Most acne is caused by a build up of dirt or oil which blocks the pores of the skin. By washing regularly, you can remove this layer and allow your skin to breathe naturally. So, soap and water is by far the easiest way to stop acne from occuring in the first place.

Many over the counter acne treatments contain something called Benzoyl Peroxide. This really helps to combat bacteria and remove it from affected areas. You'll find it in many products and it is usually in the form of a cream.

Another commonly used liquid is Salicylic acid. You'll find this in many acne lotions and it's purpose is to help unblock any pores of the skin. It is very mild even though it is an acid and is recommended mainly for less severe outbreaks and to treat mild acne conditions.

There are also many natural treatments for acne that you can look into. Many people prefer natural treatments rather than the use of chemicals but obviously this is entirely up to the individual. You can use the internet to look up some of the many natural cures that are available. It shouldn't take you too long to find something natural that can help in your acne treatment.

Buying over the counter acne treatments is just one way to help cure your acne problems but there are many ways you can do each day to prevent the acne from appearing at all. Just try to keep your skin clean at all times and have a regular cleansing pattern.

As far as things that teenagers have to cope with, acne can often be one of the hardest. Depending on how severe the acne is, it can often be difficult to treat and causes quite a lot of embarrasment to the teens. Teen acne is something that causes many teens to be quite unsociable as they are shy to go out due to the acne that they have.

It can be difficult to deal with and many teens get bullied or picked on at school due to the acne that they have. Obviously, apart from treating it the best they can, there is not a lot a teen can do about it. They have all sorts of hormone changes going on and acne is a side effect of this.

There are so pressures already that teens have to deal with, such as their weight, their grades etc that acne seems to be just another one to add to the list. But it is not just teens that can suffer. Adult acne is something that affects millions of people from all over the world. Again, all you can do is treat it as best you can and try to forget about it and not to become too self-conscious.

When it comes to teen acne, one thing you can be assured of, is that you are certainly not alone and have nothing to feel awkward or embarrased about. Just get on with your day to day routine and ignore anyone that may try to mock your acne. After all, I'm sure they have many things that are causing them problems too, it's just that are'nt on the surface and cannot be seen as easy as teen acne. So move on and most of all enjoy your teen years because they will be gone before you know it!
