Who is the best teacher to help instill in you the best way to become a bounty hunter. The answer is another bounty hunter. That should not come as much of a surprise since only an experienced bounty hunter maintains the ability to properly and effectively guide someone else to succeed in the field. A person with theoretical knowledge on bounty hunting is closer to a historian than an educator. This is why it is best to ask the advice of a professional bounty hunter to boost your knowledge on such a career.
So, how can you ask a bounty hunter to help you learn basic information on the career? You can simply...ask.
Bounty hunters are certainly busy professionals. However, like anyone else with specialized knowledge and skills, a bounty hunter may be open to sharing knowledge, wisdom, and experience with someone that asks for help. Of course, you will have to work around their schedule but the odds are in your favor you can find a bounty hunter willing to give you access if he/she has the time to do so.
What you may find helpful here would be to contact a bounty hunter via email or snail mail (avoid making unexpected phone calls out of the blue because they can be really jarring) and ask if a bounty hunter can meet with your for a half hour meeting. You can mention you wish to enter into the bounty hunting field and are not sure how to go about it. You would just like a little advice and direction on where to start.
Even if the person you contact will not be able to meet with you in person, you may get a counter offer for a phone discussion or you could request a phone conversation as opposed to a one-on-one meeting. Either way, if you are being responded to in a positive manner you will find the information provided will be a great help to your ability to learn the basics of the business.
Prior to the conversation, it would be best to have a few burning questions you need answered compiled. If you want the answer to the questions you seek there would be no better authority than a professional bounty hunter able to provide insight into your queries.
You might also need to be quick on your feet to ask follow up questions of the individual when he/she mentions something that you need clarification on. Just be sure not to butt in or cut anyone off. This is not only rude it will defeat the entire purpose of setting up an informational conversation in the first place.
In life, the simple approach can often be the most effective one. In terms of learning how to become a bounty hunter, the very simple and direct approach of asking for advice from someone already working as a professional bounty hunter might be the best approach of all to take.

Before you can become a bounty hunter in some states, you will need to work as a bounty hunter apprentice. For those that are very enthused about becoming a bounty hunter, there might be a slight sense of disappointment when hearing such words. They just want to jump into mix and become a bounty hunter full-time. While the desire for get out there and be bounty hunter is certainly admirable, the fact remains that you cannot just jump into the mix. You have to learn the basics of how the profession works. When you do not have the needed insight into the proper working of how to be a bounty hunter, it is not like you will be effective in your performance.
Besides, in certain states, you will have to work as an apprentice prior to being considered for a license. So, you are going to need to get used to the notion that you will be an apprentice for a certain period of time prior to becoming a fully working bounty hunter.
The number of hours that you have to work as an apprentice as a bounty hunter before moving up to the next level would will vary from state to state. In some regions, the amount of time you must work as an apprentice could be as much as 1000 hours.
Quite honestly, such news should not be considered negative. In fact, it should prove to be the source of a great deal of enthusiasm. When you invest a great deal of time on the apprentice level, you will learn a tremendous amount about the profession which is a positive thing on many levels.
First and foremost, how could you possibly be effective in the role of a bounty hunter without a great deal of hands on experience in the job on an entry level capacity? You wouldn't which is why apprentice programs are critically important to take part and also why they are mandated by law as a requirement for licensing in many states.
The apprentice period also boost your ability to maintain your safety when it comes to being an effective bounty hunter. Safety must always be a concern of any bounty hunter. Considerations and steps regarding maintaining one's safety in the field will definitely not be learned overnight. The apprentice period will aid in boosting one's ability to maintain adequate protection of yourself and others when out in the field.
An apprentice training period also offers you the ability to slowly grow into the job. This means you can develop at your own pace and turn into a professional that truly does have the insights and abilities to succeed. Rushing the process would completely undermine such an approach.
The apprentice stage of bounty hunting may likely be considered among the most rewarding aspects of the job. Those that have a sincere desire to become a professional bounty hunter will certainly want to look towards the apprentice stage with the same level of enthusiasm they would for their eventual role as a fully licensed professional bounty hunter.

What would be among the most important skills a bounty hunter could possess? There are quite a number of skills a talented fugitive recovery expert must possess. However, if there was one skill that was enormously important to maintain a high level of expertise would be skip tracing. Truthfully, anyone that wishes to become a bounty hunter will need quite a bit of expertise in the art and science of skip tracing. Without this skill, then you will never be able to collect your bounty or your fugitive because skip traces entails effectively locating the missing target.
Skip tracing is a series of tactics designed to locate a person whose whereabouts are unknown. Commonly, skip tracing is used by collection services with the intention of finding someone that owes a debt. However, it would be inaccurate to assume that only debt collectors employ skip tracing. Bounty hunters and private investigators and law enforcement personnel will all be involved in skip tracing work, too.
Is it easy to succeed with skip tracing? Well, if it was then there would be no fugitives because they would be easy to find. In all seriousness, a person that does not want to be found will go through all manner of steps in which to avoid being found. Fugitives on the run from justice facing possible jail time will do their very best to cover their steps so that they are not easily discovered. This is where skip tracing can prove to be the skill needed to bring them into justice.
There is no established way in which skip tracing can be performed. For many bounty hunters, skip tracing will be based heavily on maintaining good contacts in the field that have the potential to provide leads, tips, and information on where a particular fugitive may be.
The ability for a bounty hunter to create a psychological profile of the fugitive based on his/her past actions may be the way a bounty hunter can make a judgment call regarding the location of a fugitive. A careful analysis of the last known sightings of the fugitive could lead to ascertaining what his/her next steps may be. Even an examination of the known habits or hobbies of the fugitive in question could lead to gaining a perspective on where to find him. For example, if the person is a fan of restoring classic automobiles, looking in those circles could uncover a lead.
Please be aware of the fact engaging in skip tracing is not a lawless venture. A bounty hunter must always seek to stay within the law when engaging in any acts of skip tracing. Knowledge of these laws is a must or else serious consequences could result. Consider this a component of a bounty hunter's education that should never be overlooked.
There are quite a few skills that a bounty hunter must possess on order to be successful. One of those skills would be skip tracing which is critical for finding a fugitive that just does not want to be found.

Did you know you need a license to become a bounty hunter? Such information should not come as a surprise since the type of work you would be engaged in is quite serious and dangerous. In a roundabout way, the work you perform is intended to help the court system although your actual "boss" will be the bail bondsman that has requested your service. Actually, your relationship with the bondsman would be more of a partnership but why parse words?
The key point here is that no matter who you are working for, you need to adhere to the licensing requirements based on your own state's requirements. Different states will have different requirements. There are, however, a few states that do not require a license. They are Montana, Nebraska, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, and Wyoming. All other states mandate a license.
And be very mindful of the fact that you can get into serious trouble working as a bounty hunter without a license. This is a felony and you can be prosecuted for seeking to apprehend fugitives for a fee without an actual license.
The state's Department of Insurance is where you may be required to send your application for a bounty hunter license. Of course, there will be fees and the license will need to be renewed at some point. Check with your local state government offices to determine which department handles licensing for bounty hunters.
The process of applying for a license will vary from state to state and there will be different requirements. Here are a few examples of some of the requirements required to gain a license.
* No convictions for a felony could be a requirement in certain states. Once again, this is not the case in every state. The legendary Dogg the Bounty is a convicted felon and he certainly has been licensed.
* There will be a minimum age requirement to work as a bounty hunter. Some states are 18 and others are 21.
* There may be "time on the job" licensing requirements where you must work as an apprentice for "X" amount of hours before being able to move up to the next level. The next level might not even be a full bounty hunter but something akin to an assistant as opposed to a directly becoming a bounty hunter.
* You may even be required to work at a bail bond office for at least one year.
* Continued education may be required to be renewed for your license. This continued education could be as little as 16 hours.
* Some states require certain education requirements for the initial license and there are states which will accept 100% online training.
Does this seem a little confusing in terms of all the requirements? The truth here is that the requirements vary from state to state. You need to look towards your own individual state's requirements as well as any other state you wish to be licensed in.

Bounty hunters have long since been a staple of action-adventure movies and television shows. This is where most people get their impression about the profession of bounty hunting. However, in real life, there is no director or screenwriter guiding all your steps to successfully bringing back a fugitive. Rather, you have to rely on your own knowledge and experience. Being a bounty hunter is a professional pursuit. This means one has to learn how to become a bounty hunter. The question that arises here is how does one start out when it comes to learning how to be a bounty hunter.
The answer is you need to start your training in an accredited bounty hunter school. Yes, there is such a thing as an official training program designed to teach the basics of what is needed to be a professional bounty hunter.
Such skills will be multifaceted but they will generally center on two major areas of the profession. The first area would be gaining a complete overview of what the bail industry entails and the other facets would revolve around gaining the best skills to handle actual tactical field operations.
Contrary to what many cinematic presentations of bounty hunting put forth, a bounty hunter does not seek to "combat" those fugitives he is chasing. Rather, a bounty hunter wants to bring a fugitive back without causing any unnecessary harm to the fugitive, anyone in the vicinity of the capture, and the bounty hunter himself. Such an outcome can only be achieved when the bounty hunter is properly trained. Such training can include insight into how to talk fugitives into coming along and addressing any environment in such a way that it does not fly out of control.
In those instances where the acquisition of the fugitive becomes dangerous, a well trained bounty hunter will be in a much better position to deal with a dangerous scenario in the most effective manner possible.
A quality training program will often entail a mix of office investigation tactics, the execution of the actual mission, and then properly handling all the needed tasks required once the mission is completed. Each and every one of these areas must be undertaken in the proper manner or else a great many serious problems will occur. Once again, the way to avoid such problems from arising, one will need the absolute best training possible. This is where a quality bounty hunting school can be considered irreplaceable.
Of course, experience counts for a lot and many gain the bulk of their knowledge in an apprentice position with a bounty hunting service. Some might not have any formal training in a bounty hunter school. However, it would likely be best to seek official training in a school setting first since they could lead to enormous insights into what success in the profession requires. This is why it may be best to look towards enrolling in a quality bounty hunter school which can instill all the required skills needed to succeed in the field.

The laws for becoming a bounty hunter will vary from state to state. There are three states, however, where the laws regarding becoming a bounty hunter are rather straight forward: in Kentucky, Illinois and Oregon, it is illegal to perform any bounty hunting duties. In the other 47 states, there will be laws regulating the way bounty hunting is performed. It would certainly be space prohibitive to list the laws of all the 47 states as they pertain to bounty hunting. However, there are some similarities among the many states regarding the laws revolving fugitive recovery.
The following is a look at laws pertaining to bounty hunting that are among the most common. Again, individual state laws may vary but if you are interested in a general idea of what these laws entail, the following will surely be of interest to you:
Licenses are required in most if not all states that allow bounty hunting. There will be a wide range of different requirements associated with the application and approval of a license. Being a bounty hunter means you are working as a de facto law enforcement agent. While you may be seeking to recovery a fugitive for a bail bondsman, you would also be working for the courts since it is the court that the fugitive is wanted by. As such, it is critical that only those operating under the approved sanction of the state (i.e. licensed) will be allowed to legally reclaim fugitives.
A statement of truthfulness may be required. This is essentially a separate document where the applicant for the license is attesting under penalty of perjury he/she is being truthful in all parts of the application process. Perjury comes with jail time so you can see certain states take the licensing of bounty hunters very seriously.
The applicant may be required to provide fingerprints to the state bureau of investigations. These fingerprints will then be used to perform a complete and total background check that will be cross referenced with FBI files. This can be done to determine if the applicant for a license has ever been convicted of - ironically, is currently wanted for -- a crime.
Once a license has been approved, a bounty hunter will then need to follow all applicable laws in the performance of his duties.
Bounty hunters may be required to wear specific clothing identifying them as bounty hunters. While this may make it tough for them to surprise a fugitive, it allows other law enforcement personnel know who they are.
A bounty hunter may be allowed to enter the property of the fugitive without a warrant. However, if the bounty hunter enters the property of someone that is not the fugitive, this could be considered burglary, breaking and entering, and a host of other crimes. This law clearly demonstrates that bounty hunters are not given free reign to do whatever they want to apprehend a fugitive. This is a common misconception about bounty hunting many in the public have.

The work of a fugitive recovery professional (aka bounty hunter) is certainly not an easy one. Work of this nature can be considered dangerous and comes with many risks. Of course, it comes with an equal amount of reward. In addition to the potentially lucrative income one can earn as a bounty hunter, there can be a tremendous amount of personal sense of achievement gained from helping society by getting dangerous criminals off the streets. Also overlooked would be the fact that getting fugitives back into custody also helps keep the fugitive from being harmed.
While many definitely have a desire to become a bounty hunter, wanting to become a bounty hunter and actually becoming one are two completely different things. The process of becoming a bounty hunter does require a lot of commitment. Are you really up to what is required? At this point, you may be asking what exactly is required. Here are some insights into that question.
You will need to be mentally and psychologically prepared to handle such work. This is a job that is dangerous and comes with a lot of pressure. A person will truly need to be mentally tough in order to handle the work required of them in this field. If you fit such a mold, you will have a greater chance of success in the world of bounty hunting.
Being physically fit definitely would not hurt. If you have a strong body, you will be able to deal with physical altercations, chases, and other such occurrences in a much safer manner. Are you willing to hit the gym and lift weights and perform cardio work? While not a prerequisite for the job in any way, doing so will be a much better help in terms of ensuring you are better primed to handle the physical nature of being a bounty hunter.
Appropriate self-defense training is a must. This does not refer to civilian style defense or combat sports although knowledge in these areas would be a tremendous help. Rather, it refers more towards self-defense commensurate with the job of a bounty hunter. This would be likely modeled after law enforcement training or bodyguard work. One thing to keep in mind here, for civilian self-defense the goal is almost always to escape a bad scenario. For the bounty hunter, the goal is to either directly capture the fugitive to help assist in his capture.
One of the most curious aspects about state requirements for becoming a bounty hunter is that certain states have no requirements for training. Others may have requirements but they are minimal. Here is some advice: get as much training as possible so you can effectively perform your duties in the safest and most effective manner. You may have to intern for a bounty hunter and you might need to invest significantly time and money wise in a training course but this expenditure will be worth it. The more you learn about the career, the greater the likelihood you will succeed.

Are you someone that wishes to become a bounty hunter? If so, you likely may be wondering how to achieve the required skills in order to become a qualified professional bounty hunter. Two of the most common methods people will explore would be to either enroll in a bounty hunting school. The other entails becoming an apprentice to a bounty hunter directly without ever taking part in an actual school. Both of these methods are viable but there are also other ways to learn about the art and science of the bounty hunting profession.
There are scores of self-study ventures you can take part to boost your knowledge base on the subject of bounty hunting. These methods are most definitely not the strategy to employ to learn all the aspect required to be a fully experienced professional. However, they can provide excellent insight into the profession which can be built upon when you venture into a formal training program.
How can you expand your education on how to become a bounty hunter? The means to do so are relatively simple.
One of the very best ways to learn the basics of bounty hunting would be to just read about it. No, you will NOT learn all there is to know about bounty hunting by reading a book written by a famous bounty hunter. You will gain incredible insight into what the profession entails.
There are scores of articles published on the web and in magazines that revolve around the subject of bounty hunting. Many of these articles are not just of the insight variety. There are several which directly entail "how to" subject associated with bounty hunting. These can prove to be incredibly enlightening as they offer much needed insight to gain perspective on what tasks and skills are needed for the profession.
Those that are visual learners may wish to look towards DVDs that cover the subject. These video presentations could prove to be quite helpful since they do provide a means of actually seeing what is discussed in the text of the aforementioned learning resources.
Attending workshops or seminars on the subject of bounty hunting might be among the most helpful means of getting hands on experience in the tactics of the profession. These workshops and seminars might not come to your local area but it would not be a bad idea to travel to the location of the seminar considering how valuable it may prove to be.
There are even online training programs which can cover the basics of bounty hunting education. Anyone that finds distance programs such as this valuable might wish to consider enrolling in one.
Are these learning programs a substitute for an official apprentice program or the enrollment in an actual bounty hunting school? The answer is no but they are all certainly helpful education support required to gain insights needed to be successful when you do actually sign on with an official, formal training program.

The job of a bounty hunter is a physical one. No one would ever be so naïve as to suggest otherwise. Professional bounty hunters are constantly out in the field tracking down fugitives that have jumped bail. The word constantly, however, does not infer that this is the only type of work in which bounty hunters are involved with. The truth of the matter is that bounty hunters do need to perform a lot of work in the office as well. We no longer live in the days of the "Wild, wild west" where bounty hunters simply found their subject and dragged him into justice. No, there is a lot of legwork involved and this means anyone wishing to become a bounty hunter will need to be familiar with these other areas of the job.
The first step to take here would be learning as much as possible about the bail industry and bail law in particular. There are rules and regulations a bounty hunter must follow. The notion that a bounty hunter makes up his own laws is just not accurate. In the cinematic depictions of bounty hunters, this just might be the case. In the real world, however, adherence to the law is a must if a bounty hunter truly wishes to succeed at his profession.
Of course, there is the little matter of being charged with a crime if the law is violated. So, any smart bounty hunter will constantly be reading, rereading, and reviewing the law to make sure he is in compliance with it at all times.
The same can be said about the licensing requirements to be a bounty hunter. These requirements may change by the time a license comes up for renewal which is why those working in the field need to be on top of such changes. Anyone looking to enter into the bounty hunting field will also need to be expertly aware of all licensing requirements if there is hope the license application is to be approved.
In terms of the actual work in the office, record keeping will likely be a huge part of the equation. Bounty hunters often rely on contacts in the field to help them with acquisitions. This means comprehensive files and contact information on people they can rely on will be needed.
Bounty hunters will also have to keep accurate records and logs of all the cases they are involved with. There are many reasons for this with one of the most obvious being you will need such records if (more likely when) called in to testify in court.
No bounty hunter can run a bounty hunting service on his/her own. Support staff will be needed and that means a bounty hunter will have to have a basic understanding of personnel management to make sure the office is run properly.
Yes, there are many facets to running a bounty hunting business that some might not be completely aware of. That is fine as the journey to becoming a bounty hunter will be worth it when you arrive at a new profession you find both exciting and rewarding.

If you wish to become a bounty hunter, you will need formal training. There are those that have been effectively trained in an on the job capacity and there is nothing wrong with that. But, for those that might not have a network of professional bounty hunters in which to ask to break them into the business, enrolling in a bounty hunter school will be the best option. Such a school can offer many benefits. The most obvious would be expansive training in bounty hunting that will cover all that many different areas required to be skilled at the profession.
Worth mentioning would be the fact that you also want to select a credible bounty hunting school. Selecting a quality school will certainly boost your potential to start out on the right foot as a bounty hunter. Signing on with the wrong school could prove disastrous which is why you need to perform a little due diligence regarding which bounty hunting school you invest your time and money in.
Making the right selection of a school is a must if you want to enter the career of bounty hunting in the appropriate manner. Here are some things to look for and lookout for when trying to select a bounty hunting training facility:
If the promotional material for the school is a little bit too cinematic in nature, this could be considered a major red flag. This may not, however, be indicative of the actual quality of the school. An absurd ad campaign could just be the result of a misguided marketing idea. Or, it could be an attempt to troll for enrollees that are more movies inspired and not serious about their training. You probably would not want to get involved with such a training school.
The school should be one that has been in existence for some time and has produced quite a number of successful bounty hunters. Schools that are well established will have produced graduates that have become successful in the industry. A school that has graduated top working professionals will not shy away from promoting such a fact so look for such info on its website.
The training program should also cover various aspects of bounty hunting work. This includes areas in the field and in the office. You really cannot have a "lopsided" training program if you want the program to be effective.
Does the school have a reputable job placement component? This is a major thing to look for because you will not want to graduate from the bounty hunter school and then be completely on your own in terms of terms of trying to find a job. A school that offers a decent and realistic job placement service is a must.
Selecting a bounty hunting school should never be something done randomly or without a great deal of deliberation. You need to acquire the most effective skills to perform as a bail recovery agent and only a reputable school can deliver on such.
